A Little Muse

the Role Model

Coco Rocha

It was evident on first meeting Coco (Tallulah in tow) how much she loves children. We spent the afternoon with her and her lovely husband James Conran at their beautiful midtown apartment that James interior designed. In the foyer there’s an original print-my favorite of Coco- that Steven Meisel had given to her as a wedding present! We ate a wonderful lunch, talked about how she got involved with the charity LakeyPAM and her and Tallulah played hide and seek-and I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that we couldn’t find Coco for close to 15 minutes! She was hiding in the bath tub with a pile of clothes on top of her!   Continue reading →

the Inspiration

Lady Gaga

Thank you Lady Gaga! Thank you for helping to create a better environment for our children. You are our inspiration and our hero!   On hearing the sad news that teenager Jamey Rodemeyer a contributor to the It Gets Better project took his own life due to the effects of bullying-Gaga tweeted she would meet with President Obama and fight to pass a law for anti bullying. the Backstage

Lindsay Ellingson

We spent a warm day in Upstate New York with Gorgeous Victoria Secret model Lindsay Ellingson.  Michael was shooting a grunge story-an homage to the early 90’s movement which was such an important part of my youth.  So much of it was caught up in the music we were listening to- Nirvana, Pearl Jam…We scoured the vintage shops mining see-through tea dresses and vintage cheongsams (I still have mine) and paired them with heavy biker boots and threadbare leather jackets.  Then Marc Jacobs (last collection) for Perry Ellis sent supermodels down the catwalk and grunge went from subculture to the masses and a fashion superstar was born.  I still love mixing the super feminine with masculine utilitarianism.  In fact its an absolute must!  It was a great time-we retired our Azzedine Alaia and returned to our slacker roots! You can imagine how over the moon I was when Carola the fashion editor asked if Tallulah could take part in the shoot!  My very own Grunge baby!

The black and white photo (left) is taken from the Neo Grunge story that ran in Italian Elle.  Tallulah was the first shot of the day so we were free to play-running through the fields exploring nature and taking lots of pictures! The big red barn housed all the glorious fashion and we were left alone eating grapes and mulling over the clothes in the sunshine snapping our favorites-a Christian Dior floral print tea dress dress with vintage inspired underwear- a black suede Gucci bag with heavy chain and ringed hardware.  I have my eye on the Altuzarra grunge-influenced Fall 2011 collection with utility parkers and sexy dresses-and this weekend marks the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s album Nevermind-I think it’s time to revisit the grunge look only this time my lace up leather boots will have high heels!

Tallulah wears Stella McCartney kids and salt water sandals throughout.

the Brooklyn

Malcolm & Katie Kiechel-Beckford

Here is my space to talk about everything I love about Brooklyn!  Can’t think of a better way to start than with two of my favorite Brooklynites- the crazy talented couple Malcolm and Katie Beckford.  Tallulah’s always asking “Mommy when are we going to brunch with Malcolm and Katie?”  She was thrilled when I told her we had a date at their flat in DUMBO and she would get to meet Scout their Staffordshire Bull terrier! She picked out a favorite dress from Bonpoint and gathered together paper and markers to draw Scout’s portrait. Continue reading →

the Role Model

Jihae Kim

When I approached my friend Jihae to collaborate with Tallulah and I for a little muse I didn’t realize what a gift it would truly be! I was simply drawn to the beauty of her voice and am a huge fan of her music and of her as an artist.  I wanted to bring these two girls together for a jam session as Tallulah had recently started Suzuki Classical guitar.  I knew just being around Jihae (who taught herself to play guitar) would inspire Tallulah tremendously!  When she revealed to me she had recorded a song to help Children Of War-how could she not be the perfect role model for our children!
