We headed to our close friend mommy blogger for The ADVENTURISTA and Real Estate investor Naima Sanowar and husband Joe’s beautiful and festive townhouse in Clinton Hill in search of the perfect Christmas Sorrel martini. Joe who owns a marketing and advertising agency is also a mixologist magician! We arrived just in time to help him put the star on top of the tree…
Naima, describe your perfect day- My Husband Joe and I are born two days apart and share the same sign and have similar personalities. We both love dining out and doing cultural activities together like going to art galleries, and museums. There is adventure and passion in our personal life, I do most of the planning, he shows up and embarks on the adventure with me. We are always seeking out off the beaten path venues to go to in New York city. We love the neuegalerie, where we saw the amazing Austrian artist Gustav Klimt. We love planning competitive adventures with friends like watsonadventures where we did the The Murder at The Met Hunt with another couple. Home design plays an important part in our personal life, so a date for us can easily be strolling through the streets of Soho and going into the many fantastic furniture stores. On Friday nights we have movie date night. We are also both hosts at heart, so we plan many lovely cocktail soirees at our home.
Earliest and favorite memories of Christmas? I was born in Trinidad. My brothers and I spent our Christmas’s at our maternal Grand-mother in Siparia along with our cousins. My granny took us to church and to listen to parang with the locals( a traditional christmas music, it was brought to Trinidad by Venezuelan migrants) . Christmas was always so joyous. Some of my best memories were searching with my brothers and cousins for the presents my Granny would hide and baking cinnamon bread and making pastelles with everyone.
Family Christmas traditions? Our family Christmas traditions includes going to see the Charlie Brown Christmas at the Brooklyn Lyceum, The Nutcracker, caroling with our local community, a museum to see their Christmas trees. A sparkly lunch at Balthazar in Soho. We love hosting family and friends at the house.
Favorite family past times? One of Jaden’s favorite things to do is dining out, we have spoilt him that way, but it works for us since he is welcomed at most restaurants, he is so well behaved. Family date night does not always have to be at “kid-friendly” restaurants, we can take him to very grown up restaurants as well. We love going to the Museums, art galleries, exploring new neighborhoods. We recently had a wonderful ” Chinatown adventure”. Travel is huge on our list. The past two years we have visited London, Paris, Antwerp, Punta Cana, Trinidad. In 2014 we have a huge adventure planned in Italy.
Top of Jaden’s Christmas wish list this year is… Jaden has become quite the gadget junkie. He has asked Santa for a Wii U, an Apple iPad mini, Chima lego sets.
What do you love most about being a mother? My son Jaden is simply amazing to me. He was a miracle from birth, I guess even then he was fearless. Jaden was born a micro preemie at 25 weeks, he weighed only 1 pound 14 ounces at birth. My son has defied all the odds against him, he spent years in therapy and fought hard to be the healthy, normal little boy you see before you today. He is so social, loves entertaining, every day he is looking to make new friends. His motto is “every day is a party”. He is is my sidekick in most of the adventures I blog about, we can go to the super-market and he would look at me and say ” Mummy thanks for that super-market adventure.” I live in one of the most dynamic, diversified cities in the world. The best part of raising a kid in New York City, is that everything is around the corner, zoo, parks, museums, classes…there is a plethora of culture to expose them to. Sharing all of this with Jaden, warms my heart.
Some of your favorite things? Photography, exploring New York City, brunch dates with my hubby and son, entertaining friends at my house, travel.
Where and how will you be spending the holidays? My sister in law, nephew, niece and Dad will be with us for Christmas. Family is Love and it will be joyous having the house filled. New Years will be dinner and a sexy hotel over night in the City with the Hubby.Well hopefully that is the plan.
