Winter hasn’t begun yet but I’m already dreaming of the time when the warm weather comes back and Tallulah can run around in her LaissezPaisser bold, colorful romper! Nina Broeer and her two future Soccer Ace sons August and Santiago invited Tallulah and I to meet Nina’s design partner Lydia Holness and her adorable daughter Lola. Inspiration was born when the two Brooklyn moms travelled to Dakar, Senegal to visit family and their friend Oumar, a local tailor working close to the city’s garment district. They spent their time sourcing and hand picking fabrics and materials at the city’s textile markets and were fascinated by the vibrancy of the Senegalese fabrics. As a result, they decided to create their first sample collection Laissezpasser- meaning a passport to do something without restrictions.
The collection is spirited, the colors beautiful -Lola effortlessly modeled a bright orange patterned jumpsuit for us! They’re developing their children’s collection now and I’m hoping to see an explosion of color in the playgrounds this Spring in Fort Greene-a LaissezPasser color movement! You can find out more about the collection at their blog Laissezpassernyc.tumblr.com.
